Genesis 6-9 God Judges the World and sends a flood.

Review: The Fall

  • Permission – God game Adam and Eve permission to eat and enjoy the garden
  • Prohibition – Just don’t eat from this one tree
  • Penalty – You will die

Adam and Eve ate.

What did God do?  What should God have done?

If a man lies, what should happen?

If a man steals, what should happen?

If a man commits murder, what should happen?

If a man disobeys God, what should happen?

  • Adam sins
  • Cain sins Sin progresses, it’s an infection
  • Lamech sins

What do you think is going to happen next in the story?

Genesis 6:1-2 & 5-6

    • Sin has spread to the entire human race.
    • It has gotten worse and worse.

1.  Sin is an infection

What do you think sin is?

What do you think God is going to do?

Genesis 6:7

God is going to destroy everything, is that fair?

What about the people who are living good lives, should they have to die?

Should God do this?

No one is righteous, and so no one should be spared.

  • If a man lies, what should happen?
  • If a man steals, what should happen?
  • If a man commits murder, what should happen?
  • If a man disobeys God, what should happen?

Genesis 6:8

Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord, what does that mean?

Genesis 6:9

  • vs. 5 – no one is righteous
  • vs. 9 – Noah was righteous

Where did Noah’s righteousness come from?

2.  God is the source of our righteousness

We are infected with sin (look at the glass).

But, sometimes we do good things.

How is this possible?

Genesis 6:11-17

God is going to totally destroy the earth and everything in it

Genesis 6:18-21

  • God promises to save Noah
  • God promises to save Noah’s sons and their wives
  • God promises to save two of all the living creatures
  • God is promising to save the world through Noah.
